In Shetland, spring can be deceptive – it might seem it’s really here to stay this time, only to be swiftly pushed away again by days of blizzards and bitterly cold winds. But when it does finally arrive, it’s with vigour and elation. Everything in the garden is waking up after the long winter sleep and there are signs of new life everywhere. It’s such an uplifting feeling! And then the hotly anticipated, bright pink stalks of rhubarb appear, to officially mark the beginning of the new gardening season in Shetland.

About Misa and Laurie

Our paths crossed and intertwined years ago, rooted in our work at the Shetland Museum and Archives, where our shared passion for Shetland's rich heritage and natural beauty developed into a friendship.

But our story is not just about the past. After many years of employment, both Laurie and I decided to embrace the path of self-employment, driven by a deep desire to pursue our dreams and share our love for Shetland with the world.

Laurie, with her experience as an assistant curator and her qualifications as a tour guide, has blossomed into a remarkable travel writer.

Meanwhile, Misa’s background in tourism and marketing, coupled with a role as a heritage manager, which led me to establish a tour company and 60 North Publishing.
