Shetland Wool Adventures Journal

vol. 1-4

“Starting the Shetland Wool Adventures Journal has been my dream for a long time, and I am so delighted it is now coming together. Created during the world pandemic, it hasn’t been an easy feat, but it has brought me joy and a destination to steer towards during these difficult and uncertain times. I am delighted to have been able to start this new venture which will hopefully spread the joy of creativity and positivity further afield. And since travel is on hold for now, this way I might be able to bring a little piece of Shetland into your home too.

My aim is to inspire you through our stories, beautiful photography, knitting patterns, walks, interesting interviews, recipes and personal insights into our lives here.

But not all is rosy... Sadly, like many places, our tourism has been hit extremely hard and it will take a long time to rebuild it. We remain positive though, and through initiatives like this Journal we will provide as much support as we can to the promotion of our tourism industry. By purchasing a copy of the Journal you are supporting many Shetland small creative and tourism businesses. And hopefully those of you who are not able to make your Shetland trip this year will find solace in this new publication and for those of you who dream of visiting our isles, the Journal will take you closer.”

— Misa Hay

“Substantial in every sense of the word, this publication is a truly beautiful thing – a purposeful and joyous celebration of so many of the things there are to love about Shetland. I wanted to find out more about this great project, so last week I caught up with Misa to find out more about how the Journal had come about.”

“I have enjoyed reading and rereading your Shetland Wool Adventures Journal Vol. 1. The mix of stories, history lessons, lovely photographs, tempting recipes and beautiful knitted works all made for a perfect collection of inspirational reads. The book is a good size to hold and the use of colour throughout keeps one turning the pages — and I could travel to Shetland without leaving the safety of my home. Thank you for providing a most welcome respite from the crazy world of political issues, virus concerns and environmental problems.”

“The journal is absolutely beyond my expectations (which were quite high anyway). It’s perfect. I’m gloating today because, as an early subscriber, I have my copy. My local yarn shop sold out all their copies instantly and had to contact you for another two boxes because of demand. Isn’t that exciting? I’m pleased as punch that you are getting just reward for grabbing on to this project and executing it so well.”
